What's New!
Snow may be on the ground but the Denali Water Safety Team is already looking ahead to next May - thanks to the arrival of some new gear. FINALLY, we have some kid-sized kayaks for next summer's water safety classes. Special thanks to our community partner Olympic Gold Medalist Joe Jacobi, Ocoee Adventure Center, and Jackson Kayak. Our national award-winning program may be small, but it is vital to our community. A crowd of students - past, present and future team members - checked out the boats this week.

Opera Tenor David Cangelosi New York Metropolitan Opera Tenor David Cangelosi and his longtime accompaniest Marge Adler pause beside the Tri-Valley School Viking in September. The talented pair presented a workshop on opera to students from Tri-Valley, Anderson and Cantwell Schools. More than 200 students gave the duo a standing ovation. The next night, more than 250 people attended a free community concert at the Denali Princess Resort main lobby building. It is partnerships that allow these kinds of events to take place. Message from Superintendent - Candace Mudge
Dear DBSD Board, students, staff, parents and public,
With great pleasure I announce that, Patricia Truman, the director of the State Teacher of the Year Committee for the state of Alaska, informed me that Candace Mudge has been given the title of First Alternate for Alaska Teacher of the Year, for 2009-2010. She let me know that the committee deliberated very long and hard between the first and second place teachers, and that Candace narrowly missed selection as Teacher of the Year. Regardless, I believe I speak for all Denali Borough when I say, Candace Mudge is number 1 in our hearts.
A huge CONGRATULATIONS for Candace Mudge, Teacher of the year for Denali Borough School District.
Happily,
Kim Langton
Thank You to the Denali Borough
The Denali Borough School District enjoys a relationship with its Borough that not all districts can boast. We receive not only the minimum financial support mandated by the state but the most allowable by state law. Relationships are positive, with the borough consistently reminding its constituents that one if its main reason for existence is the education of its children. The borough partners with the district in applying for grants and in constantly looking out for the welfare of students in lobbying efforts to the legislature. From the Board, administration, staff and students of Denali Borough School District:
Thank-you Denali Borough and Mayor Dave Talerico!

School Board Podcast Moved
To address feedback on the podcast of the board meetings the content has been moved onto one of our own servers in the district to greatly speed up downloads for users that are local. The speeds for users that are not located in the borough should be unchanged or maybe even slightly faster. This may cause some users to need to click the "Subscribe" button again to assure that iTunes is looking in the correct place for the audio. For those listening in a web browser you shouldn't notice any difference. Please contact the tech department if you are having any problems. Click here for the podcast.

At the regularly scheduled School Board meeting in Cantwell on August 20, the

student needs at each site, having heard from the principals at the meeting and
hearing from the public informally and formally over the past several months.
