May I take this opportunity and introduce myself to all students, parents, and community members involved in the educational process of children. I am Joe Banghart the new interim Superintendent for Denali Borough School District. Recently I served six years as the Superintendent for Iditarod Area School District, McGrath, Alaska. Other responsibilities included Special Education Director, District Test Coordinator, grants, NCLB monitoring, and a multitude of other challenges.Professional organizations I have served with are, The Alaska Teacher Placement Advisory Board, Administrators Association, Vice Chairman for the Council for the Educational Advancement of All Alaska Children, McGrath City Council member, and served on various boards in many other areas. I was the Principal for Kalskag Schools and District Special Education Director, Kuspuk School District, Aniak, Alaska for five years. My first assignment in Alaska was in Arctic Village for two years as Principal Teacher. I believe a Superintendent should live and be involved within the communities they serve. I served four years in the United States Marines, two tours in Vietnam, with multiple decorations. My wife Elizabeth and I have been married for 45 years. My office is always open and I encourage you to stop by just for a visit or to share any concerns you may have. Thank you for the opportunity of serving children in this area.
My Personal Steps of Positive Actions To Support Children
Step one: I continue working together with students, parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, community members, and School Board Members in building bridges of trust supporting education within the district.
Step two: I continue to hold personal meetings with individuals, collective groups, city organizations, and attending The Denali Borough Board Meetings in an effort to provide positive leadership.
Step three:I stop and celebrate all the excellent programs that currently exist in the Denali Borough School District and share this success with others.
Step four:I recognize the value of all our employees and continue working in a collaborative way with everyone seeing the true value in the ideas and concerns they may have.
Step five: I realize the value of living and taking part within the community I serve. This is a key element in building trust and supporting the economy of the area.
